ok so i wasnt even taking out the thermostat. i thought it was but it turns out its the housing to the temp sensor. the whole housing is made outta some different material and that material started to deteriorate. thus leaking fluid out. plus one of the little "O" ring gaskets that goes between the pipe and this housing was missing. i happened to pull it out of the coolant overflow res. the other day.

good thing i saved that part cause now i know what it went to. hahah. ill try and post pics for you guys.
let me know what you think....how much to replace all that stuff.
thanks

So lost, where in the heck are you on the engine?

I was gonna say maybe you should do the timing and water pump while you got it all ripped apart (thermostat is behind the water pump). But I think you are on the coolant resevoir?

Ha ha I couldn't tell anymore. Where the heck was the part floating at? I am so lost.

im not sure mate never bought one im in the UK and use eurocarparts or the breakers yard, but you could have it repaired or use a large amount of sealer when re-fitting, the rot was caused by a coolant leak which has been going on for quite some time by the looks of it

yup that coolant leak has been there for probably around two years. i've only had the car for about 4 or 5 months.
im trying to get everything fixed on it. this is the first step since it overheats due to no coolant.
theres also a sludgy substance that im kinda affraid might mean a head gasket next. ugh.
