Default Flat spot on tires?

Last night on the interstate some rednecks just pulled right out in front of me in a construction zone, i slammed on the brakes and pulled the ebrake... the car slid every which way but i kept it under control and got stopped... when i started back though, it has a littel vibration and maybe like a thumping sound coming from the back, i can see where the tire was worn from the emergency brake in the back... anyhow anything i can do besides new tires? hopefully it will wear out with time, its not bad... could it have hurt the quattro in some way maybe?

I wouldn't move the tires to the front. It will send a shimmy up the steering column.

couldn't hurt...

but yea, replace the tire with the spare, worse comes to worst, you have a spare tire when you need it, but it'll just have that little flat spot

The other possibility is that you threw one of the balancing weights and the tire just needs balancing.

In ideal dry conditions, ABS makes your stopping distance longer compared to skidding. The problem with a skid is that is also locks your direction. Thats part of what ABS does, is allow you to turn and brake at the same time. If you utilize threshold braking where you keep the brakes just on the edge of skidding (takes alot of feel and practice) then you will have even shorter stopping distances on dry pavement.

i was driving too fast for the conditions really... so when the redneck pulled out, i stood on the brakes and my hand was just on it and it came up, just instinct or something but i wouldnt recommend it cause it sent it into a bad slide, i was very close to losing it and hitting a barrel or something, i dont know how i kept it under control, it went back and forth a couple times but stopped very quickly

abs does keep it from sliding because your average driver cant control a slide and would cause a wreck... abs gives you the best stopping distance without being out of control, i just the best bang for your buck if you will
