Default Forum vs. Friend

Before i get bombarded with "yo newbie, use the search!" rampage i want to let you all know that i've been down that path but i need alittle more on the subject. i really have my eyes set on a A4 quattro in the '99 range. The forum has been helping me hone my search skills but the 1.8/2.8 feud is still a problem. I have a friend that is telling me to stay away from the 2.8 butas i amreading on here, it is a more reliable engine. He agreed that there are more moving parts in the 1.8 but still insists that i stick with the 1.8. i'm wondering if anyone out there knows if there is a common problem with the 2.8 that is more major than maintaining smaller problems with a 1.8 or if i should just finally accept that the 2.8 really is the one for me? i have the feeling that i'm going to settle for the nicest one i can find regardless of engine tpye but i'd like to have a preference going in.[sm=headbang.gif]

should be simple.... if you want stock preference get 2.8, if you wanna do your own mods get 1.8t.

You can get mods for the 2.8 but there are alot more of them for the 1.8t

basically as people have said before me if you want to mod get the 1.8t and if you like stock performance get the 2.8

1.8t if you want to mod, you will sacrifice a small amount of reliability.

If you want reliability and no engine modding, get the 2.8. You can still mod suspension, brakes, cosmetics, exhaust, etc, just not much engine wise, like the 1.8 can.

Both are good cars.

1.8T if you want to do engine mods

2.8 if you wanna keep it stock and do sound/exterior stuff

2.8 is a little faster stock vs stock so its all preference, good luck!

Another point to add to the 1.8t and the 2.8 is that the 1.8t has better fuel economy than the 2.8

that could influence your decsion making as well

ya fuel economy. i have a 1.8 with a APR 91 and $40gives me 11 gallons. too lazy to math and i dont remeber the actual price. but i think where i live the 91 is $3.52 a gallon

plus i dont expect the price to go down anytime soon so that can be a large factor in what you choose
