Fuel filter replacement gone bad
So last friday i changed my fuel filter with the one i got form shucks. It was like 11 bucks and figured i was saving myself atleast 100 dollars in labor fees. So needless to say i changed it and there was fuel leaking from both ends where the screws go on. I tried a different combo of washers and same problem. i kept trying to screw around with it and finally gave up. Unfortunatly the hoses IN and OUT were bent and were restricting fuel. I called AAA and made up some story about how my car died 100ft from my house to get a free tow. Anyway the shop i took it to said i needed to replace both fuel lines and said it would be about 500$ total for everything. Now is that realisticly acceptable? It seems a bit steep but i guess you have to drop the fuel tank in order to get the IN feed line replaced and the OUT is cake.
IS 500$ REASONABLE???
Thanks, Stan Keech

you might have saved $40 in labor.... thats what my mechanic charged... i did my own fuel pump and the fittings are a biatch!!! i saw the filter had four fittings like that and said the hell with that... my mechanic said people come in all the time who broke a fitting and when u break a fitting, yes u have to replace all the lines going back and drop the tank to do so.... i have a friend who works at audi and said the same thing... i figured if the mecahnic breaks it, its on him.....
why didnt u use the OEM filter? thats part of the problem!

on that note...since the filter really isn't a huge deal to change, is there anything else you guys would recommend them changing around that area? the shop i just talked to made me feel like a dumba$$ for only wanting them to replace my fuel filter...
**i just don't wanna do it myself based on the horror stories and PITA is seems...plus i don't have some of the right tools

its not bad on a b6 but u need some special tool or have the magic touch/know how to get those damn connections off the filter... audi has a tool for it i know.... if it wasnt for that, it would be cake
on the pump it two fittings, one you just squeezed the release... easy!!! the other one was like the four on the filter... took me 30 minutes and i broke off one ear/tab thing.... when i saw the filter had four of the same... i thought if i break one of those here ill be replacing a whole fuel line......
