Fuel Pump Out?
My fuel pump (at least thats what i think) has been making strange whining noises for a while on my 02 A4 and this morning my car just wouldnt start so i'm assuming that the pump went out? I called the dealer and they quoted me a price of like $340 for the pump and another $60 for the fuel filter. I have a mechanic that can do it for me but I wanted to know what your thoughts were and if someone might be able to suggesta place that I could find the cheapest parts for this type of fix. Thanks so much, and beinga newbie i appreciate any help you can give!
Check to see if it has been recalled. My 03 has a recall notice, and my car won't start right now either, and I am thinking fuel pump.
Search on a4 recall or a4 fuel pump recall on google and you will get all sorts of links to the recall notice and a number to call if your call is in the recall.

i thought 02's and some of 03's had recalls on the fuel pump just call the dealer and give them your vin.... i have an 04 and mine went out at 58k... i replaced it myself.. you will need a pump, gasket, and filter.... i paid $220 at my dealer for everything (wholesale cost) you can get the pump for about $100 cheaper online...... and the filter from purems for $41...
I think the manufacture date on the recall is a few months after my date so I don't think it will be covered in the recall. That sucks cuz it probably is the same problem! I think I can try to work some wholesale prive detail but dropping $500 bucks right at x-mas time sucks! I wish the dealer would do mine for $220, they want like $600 plus tax to replace to pump and the filter!
its a biatch! i had my hands in gas for 1.5 hours... it was hard figuring out how the plastic clips disconnected from inside the pump while you are forearm deep in gas... one of the connectors on top of the pump is easy, the other is a bitch too...
icould do it now much easier like anything else
but i would say get the parts online and DIY, $300 should be tops... at least get the parts online and have them install it...
