What are some of the things you guys didn't like about APR? just the power curve in general?
Yes, I would like to hear this answer as well.......
I am still sitting on the sidelines trying to decide between the APR, GIAC, and NeuSpeed chips.

APR is the closest installer to where I live and it has the switching feature.
GIAC seems to be the smoothest and most popular. (At least in this thread )
NeuSpeed makes the biggest claims for HP/Torque and they have the best pricepoint as well.

Decisions, decisions.......

giac has a switching facility, it's just in the form of PC software or their hand held unit.

If you're under warranty this is a better option anyway, since dealerships have enthusiasts working for them as well and know about the cruise control chip functionality

By removing the dongle from the car, if you're in stock more it makes it that much harder for them to find the chip.

For $59, you can have APR add a security feature which allows only you and the installation tech to know the sequence of how to engage or dis-engage the performance mode on the chip.
Unless the guy at the dealership was able to guess up, up, left button,, up, right button, down in that order or whichever sequence you choose - they have no way of finding it.

To add GIAC's hand held unit adds approximately $150 to the price, if memory serves me right.

So buy one :P Once you start modding the car, it'll become a very valuable tool for diagnosing the issues that *will* crop up.

Fair enough. Would you care to point a n00b in the direction of a decent one? Or at least a decently PRICED one?

http://ross-tech.com/

These guys make the cable and software. If you buy the cable from them, it activates the software to the full version.

There are cheaper cables around but you'd still need to buy the software for $100 and that will only work on 1 PC. With the ross-tech cable you can install the software on any PC and as soon as you plug in the legit cable it activates the software to the full version,

Subtle. Thanks for the tip.

****Edit: That took 5 minutes. Now I have it, but it's in friggin' German. lol, back to the search.

****Edit #2: Duh. Found it. Please advise SPECIFICALLY which cable you are referring to. I am about 1 hour into my VAG-COM deucation, so some of this stuff reads like gibberish to me.
Thanks, Dan!
