Default gapping spark plugs? doesnt make sense

I wanna get new plugs for my a4. it looks like the copper ngk BKR6E are best... but the question is, you guys keep saying gapped at .028 ... how do i gap them? and that doesnt make sense to me, if the plugs come 0.8 does it mean im changing them to 0.028 and isnt that too much of a difference?

sorry about the sillyness of this question, and yes ive done a search but noone actually explains how to gap them, or what these measurements actually mean

thanx

thanx that helps heaps... doesnt answer one question though, u guys say gap to 0.028
when the plugs are originally 0.8

does that mean reduce it 0.8 - whatever = 0.028

isnt that a huge difference? or am i reading the numbers incorrectly

first off you are taking 2 different measurements so your confusing the issue either go metric 0.8 or imperial 0.028/28th, the plugs come gaped but it doesn't hurt to check them (they might have been dropped)

the correct plugs for your car if using NGK are BKUP6ET-10 and gap is 0.9

NGK BKR6E gapped at .028-.030 is what you want for being chipped. They are copper, and will need changing every 10k miles or so.
