Gas?

I've used 89 octane in my 2001 1.8t for the last 4 years. I tried 93 and didn't notice any difference. I have 72,000 mi. now. The computer compensates with retarded spark and less boost.

Just because you don't see a difference doesn't mean there is not one. The car retards the timing because there is a problem - you are not running the car as efficiently as you can be. In other words you buy a performance car, and refuse to let it perform.
Dude I use 91 at least and my cumbustion chamber still carbons up pretty bad...
In higher temp situations like 90+ I notice huge power loss even with 91 wich indicates engine knock... run 89 and youll probly get knock under normal operating temps

Okay, fellas. Thanks. Yes you can run 87 octane gas in your car, but it will only be a matter of time before you start to see the effects. I did it took me 5 months then I ended up buying a Ignition module and plugs. I was hoping to find a median, but it seems that 89 won't work either..
Thanks again fellas..
Thanks again fellas..
Moorestown, NJ, just across from Philly.
In NJ there is only full serve gas, 87, 89 and 93 octane. Still it is cheaper than in PA because the taxes on gas are lower. If I shop around, I can get full serve 93 for 1.99.
Where are you?

Deffo don't run on lower than 91, i've seen an engine meant for 105 running on 95 and it was messed.
LOL @ you guys moaning at your Gas prices, in the UK it's just over $11/US gallon!
