Gas question
Quick question. Can I pump gas in my ride with the middle octane (89) instead of 91 or higher as it suggests on the fuel cap? The fuel cap says pump 91 or higher, then I asked the sales guy and he said that the tech said it was ok to pump 89 as long its not 87. Will it hurt my car to pump 89?
it won't
im running 89 right now, and there's no sluggish in the pull and no low idles or running rough
i wouldn't run any lower than that, with an occasional 91 now and then
just be sure to add the injector cleaner everynow and then
the A4 1.8T runs 9:1 compression so you're ok, if it was 10:1 or over then you have to run 91 and higher
just don't put freaking 87 in it and complain about it later! you get what you pay for!

When you burn lower-octane fuel, the antiknock sensors will retard the spark, possibly increasing your fuel consumption. In an engine expressly designed for 87 octane gasoline, such as my 2003 Dodge Stratus 2.4L DOHC, high-octane fuel is a waste. However, in an engine optimized for higher-octane fuel, such as most Audi engines, premium fuel is often cost-effective.
Maybe you should start using regular oil -- and changing it every 10K miles, dont forget your FRAM filter...
That'd save money too...
__________
Seriously, you bought the car... anybody here SHOULD tell you to run whatever gas it is telling you to! Audi says 91, run 91. Jeebus.
