Gas Tank
I have a 2004 Audi A4 3.0/V6 quattro. I am wondering how big my gas tank is so that I can properly calculate my gas mileage. The owner's manual tells me 18.5 gallons, an online manual told me 17.4 gallons, an online website told me 16.6 gallons, and a dealer told me 16 gallons. Please help.
An owners manual comes with your particular model for a reason.
It is your bible.
Your manual is correct.
Really it doesnt even matter.I cant believe I am about to explain 3rd grade math here, but.........
Go to a gas station. set your mileage counter to 0. Fill up the the tank. drive till near empty.
Now, go to a gas station again. Write down whats on the mileage counter. Fill the tank again. Say it takes 17.1 gallons to fill it this time.
then, your averagemileage is whatever the miles your counter says, divided by 17.1.
Make sense? See how easy that was? and it really doesnt matter if your tank holds 18.5 gallons, 17 gallons, or 20 gallons.

So, I checked and I do have the proper owner's manual, which like I said, states 16.6 gallons. Recently, I drove until the in-dash display said 5 more miles before empty. I filled it up and it stopped at 14 gallons and change. I topped if off at 15 gallons not wanting to dangerously go over. Now, what do you think the tank size estimate would be?
