Your point? They can flash or chip the ECU with the K04 programming. I didnt say you needed to buy the kit from them :P

For 2001, there are two GIAC files; a "standard" K04 file that requires using a 5 bar fpr, and the K04 Hammer file that requires a 4 bar fpr, 380cc TT225 injectors, a TT225 MAF, a FMIC (recommended), and an upgraded exhaust. (BTW, I've had both.)

The problem with the 5 bar K04 file is that on 2001 cars, there is a problem with the throttle body closing at around 5000 rpm under boost. It's thought to be a safety control because the airflow is excessive and the stock fuel injectors operate too long at max capacity. (Injectors should not operate at more than 85% capacity for any extended period.) As a result, the ECU shuts down the TB to prevent injector failure.

The Hammer file was developed jointly with Garrett and Jeff Moss (of Torque Factory). It addresses (quite successfully) the fueling issue with the bigger injectors. Those require more air, which the 3" TT225 MAF allows. Add in the FMIC to cool the increased boost and a freer flowing exhaust to reduce back pressure, and you have a pretty awesome setup.

The problem is that if you think you can get away with a $700 turbo, your wrong. Figure closer to $2700 plus labor by the time your done. If you do your own work, you'll save a lot.

well for ju8st the regular file with the 5 bat FPR it will not add up to $2700 with all the extra's that you have there sure no problem but just a K04 software and 5 bar fpr that can be had for about $1500-$1600 if you piece it all togeather and you can always find used stuff and get it all for about $1000 if you look hard enough this is assuming you are doing the install yourself

Im running that standard k04 profile on my car with the 5bar FPR. Its pretty nice and definetly enjoy it. I rather not do the mods for the higher end one so I think this is where im sticking it =)

I think you missed the part about the 5 bar program NOT working on 2001 cars.
