Default GIAC Tiptronic Chip

Alright, I'm on a quest for some relatively inexpensive (less than $500) upgrades for a 98 2.8 w/ Tiptronic. I know, I know, not going to get the same kind of performance as I could with the 1.8, but a decent 1.8 was tough to find. Anyway, I went on Awe-Tuning's website and they sell a GIAC chip that reduces tranny shifting speed from 1 second to 0.2 seconds for $250. Would this be something worth looking in to? Also, has anyone ever put a K04 or something similar on a 2.8? Is the manifold relatively the same as the 2.7T from an A6? I'm new to Audis and I'm not really sure what my 2.8 is capable of, so all suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Theres no real point to a tip chip unless you have a 1.8t chipped ecu. Its meant to reduce the natural slipping that happens during high torque gear shifts with a chip or beefy turbo, or both. I think all it will do for your car is make it shift harder/faster. No REAL gains. I could be way off, but this is what I understand the tip chip is meant for.

The GIAC chip is only for 1.8t's. Also, the 2.8 is a naturally aspirated engine, not a forced induction using a turbo, so the k04 would not be possible to put on a 2.8. modding is fairly limited as far as the 2.8 goes. something to the effect of the k04 would be the supercharger for the 2.8 which runs for about $5k.

Sounds like you're right, I was reading a little more about it, seems like it makes smoother/faster shifts, not a real gain. As far as turbos go, haven't found anything that will bolt up, but I did find this nice supercharger for my 2.8 A4, kinda spendy but it pounds the pavement pretty hard. http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/p...oducts_id/5023

I think the 2.8 tip tranny is fine w/ the supercharger. Check out superchargedaudi.com.

they are different. The ratios in the 2.8 are a lil better and the 2.8 tranny is a lil stronger. talk to audi-home-boy

Thanks for the help guys, keep the ideas coming. It might take me a little while before I can justify dropping $5K into my car, but damn that would be so worth it.
