Default GIAC the way to go?

I have a 2001 A4 1.8T, it is in the shop right now for timing belt and tune up. The shop sells GIAC performance software for my car. I was hoping to get some advice from any who has looked into performance chips/programming. What is the best option for my car? Is this something a person with above average mechanical inclination could save some money by doing their self? Any general info or advice would be welcomed.

Thanks!

I love my GIAC, but APR and GIAC are going to give u simular results with your car. it is all about your brand preference at this point.

If you can't get Dahlback in your area, I'd go with Giac on an 01' b5.

I heard Revo was the way to go with b7s. I don't know from experience though.

i'm gonna take Chaos's advice on the GIAC chip, and go to AutoDreams, next week, really can't believe that a chip will give you 30 hp and about the same amount of torque...if that works, that's the best thing that's gonna to happen to me since i got my audi
