Going to be buying a 2002 A4 1.8t Quattro or possibly a B5... Need some help!
Im new to the Audi world. What brings me here is the luxury and style with the potential I have heard coming from the 1.8t engines... Now my question is:
Do I go with the B6 2002 - 2004 which has the sleeker body lines better headlights etc....
Or do I go with a B5 ?
What I know I want is black on black awd and of course with the 1.8t engine.
What tranny's seem to hold up better? Any differences in the years? (im guessing the 5 speed trannies hold up better than the auto's)
Is there any difference in the engines in the years? Any drivetrain issues in the years? any problems that possibly the 2002's have that the 2000's don't ? If the B5 has more potential or less problems I would probably lean that way, also because its cheaper. What would you guys recommend I do ? Please let me know, I greatly appreciate it! I'm getting tired of driving my truck around every day : |
EDIT: And what years did the body styles (ie headlights tail lights body lines major things) change if you guys could please tell me? Thanks!

I have a Black on Black 2001 A4 1.8T and it is chipped with GIAC and i am pretty happy with it. I love the look of the B5 body style. B6 is great too but i was not ready to give the B5 body up yet (i use to have a 1997 Audi A4 1.8t). With the B6 you can get a chip and upgraded injectors through APR but the injectors are $500 and you only get 20 HP. I have a manual trans and it is holding up very well, also my 1997 had a automatic with 106,000 miles on it and it shifted smooth. With the right suspension upgrades and rims the B6's can look mean. A black on black B5 with a s4 bumper and side skirts is "so fresh and so clean". The B5 looks like it wants to go fast, looks like it belongs on a track. the B6 looks like a hybrid between a show car and a track car(mose toward the show than the go) even though it can go... WHAT? Anyway Both are great cars and if properly maintained it will last you a long time.

I say go with the b6. Its a little bit heavier but has more room and the interior is a little nicer than the b5. Plus a lowered b6 with the right wheel combo is sick.

I have an 01' and i love it...one of my buddies has an 02' and its got some nicer features in it, but i would rather take the mine over his and if i were u, i would take the extra cash that you save and hop-up the car a bit

Thanks for the reply's guys. I guess my question is... is it worth paying the extra dough for the 2002 over lets say a 1999.5 - 2001 ?
