My instrument cluster has been randomly resetting/doing odd things lately. I have figured out at least one of the triggers for these odd occurances:

While driving between 40-50mph, if i floor the car without pressing the kickdown switch, the instrument cluster will turn off, then back on, and the trip odometer will be reset. The car needs to be driven at least 1.8 miles since the last time it happened, and sometimes needs to be driven for much longer. I can get the car to do this many times in a single 20 mile trip, so it is relatively predictable.

What on earth could be causing this? i don't remember this happening before i got my timing belt replaced, although i had only had the car for a few days when i got the belt replaced so it may have been a problem before, as well.

Any ideas are greatly appreciated,

I have the exact same thing happening in my STS... im trying to figure out what it could be.. faulty ground?

The stealership said it might be my instrument cluster but i dont want to dish out 500$ for no reason if it turns out to not be that.. My STS does it a couple times a year.. always in October.. dont ask me why.. climate change problems caused by humidity maybe??


I suggest you check the connections behind your cluster to start off..

 

i should have mentioned that i have checked the connections at the cluster and they are all good. Wiggling them does not duplicate the problem, not does wiggling the connection block/fuse block wires underneath the dash. It is either my instrument cluster going out or a loose ground somewhere, and i'm almost sure its a loose ground. I just have no idea where the ground connections are at on this car, so if i could get a list of those i would GREATLY appreciate it. Thanks,
