Got a 97 A4 Q 5-speed...
So the car is amazing but this its my first time driving/owning a manuel car im 18 and very fortunate have this car ive been driving it for 2 days now. Im pertty rough out of first gear and someitme my1st -2nd can be choppy. Annd stop lights are a pain only b/c im still driving pertty slow. If anyone can give me some suggestions it would be appricieted...
hahaha i love the name MistaGanja! you and chaos should get along nicely
but oh shizzle youre making kitty mad... thats never good
once you get used to the manual youll love it and never get an auto ever again!

That was the first car i owned, I would never drive anything else but audi!! Take your car to a empty parking lot and practice a little.....Put it in first gear and very slowly let the clutch out. (dont even touch the gas) This will give you a better feel where it grabs. good luck and have fun!
to add on to what GL said you can actually get the car moving without using the gas at all just let the clutch out very very slowly and youll start rolling (if youre on a flat surface)
is it the car its self thats rough or youre just learning to drive stick? i learned by reading online before i even tried to actually go out and try. once you understand just how everything works and what exactly the clutch does youre better off. atleast thats how i learn better....
As GL said, you want to find out where your clutch grabs. I'm sure you have an idea now, but just get used to that position (every car has different grabbing points).
Ideally you want to give at least a little gas when pulling off, the idea is to be smooth, but at the same time not burning the clutch (over revving with the clutch held in)
When you take your foot off the clutch, the clutch actually closes and engages, pushing it in opens it up, allowing you to shift. You just want that trasition from unengaged and engaged to be smooth.
It may take a little practice, but the key is not to panic. If you are in traffic, just take your time, dont get under pressure.
All in all you should have it within a week and then learn how to REALLY DRIVE.
Manuals ROCK

It's not the FAST AND THE REDICULOUS there is no need for .09 millisecond shifts. I find A4s have extremely heavy fly wheels comapred to to more sporty less refined cars such as my MR2 or miatas. Make the 1st seconds shift slow and deliberate. If you try and shift like in the movies all ur gonna do is toast your clutch real fast. When ur really far off from where the revs should be when u let off the clutch the synchros and clutch must make u the diffrence and it causes wear.Watch a profesional race driver shift mid corner or just after apex when traction is low and it ill be slow, deliberate and extremely smooth and non rushed. Here is a vid on how to drive an Audi in stick.lol

lol.. best bet is to just drive around for long periods of time... you will get the "feel of your car" to drive stick and once you know how far to give and let go of the clutch you should have no problems driving. For me I live in Montreal downtown so its not the funnist time to drive stick. Traffic to and from work.. stop and go, it gets annoying to be honest. Just make sure you know and understand what and how standard cars work, thats the easiest way to learn it.
