I recently purchased an 2001 A4 1.8T Quattro auto. It has 60K on it and a new engine and turbo was put in at 49K (due to oil sludge i believe) i was wondering if on the auto's there is a noticalbe hesitation when i take off hard from a stop. once i hit 3k rpm and get into second it seems much quicker. is this normal?

 

thats because the turbo needs time to spool up, don't worry, its normal. Its more noticeable in the automatic than a manual.

Yea thats normal .. its turbo lag. you will notice it with the auto from a stop cause you cant rev it.

 

yeah ive got the same thing in my auto. its really really slow off the start but once the turbo spools up you can feel it pull
