Default Got an Engine/Turbo Issue ... need some troubleshooting Help

So I just purchases this Audi a few days ago, got one for the Mrs. and I'm runnning into a problem. It seems that whenever I drive it, I'm constantly getting a raspy whine from what I beleive to be the turbo right around 2500 RPM. It's very noticable in 1st gear, and then only a little in second and the gears after that. Like I said I typically get that noise right around 2500 RPM which makes me beleive that it's the turbo. When the turbo kicks in at 3200 RPM or so it doesn't make the noise. The car has a GIAC chip on it. Is it possible that it's running too lean and the car isn't getting enough fuel for the amount of air the chip is pushing through? Are there any othe ideas as to what this could be?

I appreciate it in advance.

Noises are very difficult to diagnose over the net.
Are you sure it is the turbo? Turbo bearing failure is supposed to sound like a dentists drill

Yeah, I know they really are, I guess it's a last ditch effort before I have to take it somewhere and have it looked at.

have you changed the diverter valve yet? How about vacuum hoses?

I do not know actually. I personally have not, but I'm not sure. Where is the DV located on the 1.8T? I'll see about taking a look at that.

And is there a noticable difference between the 710A and 710N?

yes if you are running a GIAC chip and you have the old dv model then you should absolutly upgtrade the part to 710N the TT dv...

the dv is located right under the bumber area on the passanger side of the car...just jack it up on that end and you can change it yourself....cheap part..easy fix...

you will notice a big difference and the noise should go away..

this has been covered a lot of times in the forums if you search it..

Oh right. I was wondering what the two look like so that I can compare. I crawled under there tonight and found the DV, but it had no markings and was silver so I'm not sure which one it is.

This would mean you have some aftermarket upgraded DV... Audi OE units are black plastic.

Well I guess that eliminates the question of whether I have a decent DV or not. I guess a trip to the Audi dealer we will take.
