great...puttering like a mofo
UPDATE -
k, so my mechanicly inclined friend took a look at my car. heres wut he did....we started the car and would take one plug off a coil to see which one actually wasnt working.we pull#4, car would puttt putt , #3 putt putt #2 putt putt , then when we took out #1 , it wouldnt do **** , wouldnt make any difference in the way it was running. So therefor , #1 coilpack was shot. I replaced that with a new coil pack and it still wont run right.
next step - My friend ,( with the car on ) , would pull a coil out while the car was runnign to hear the spark splug zapping , each coilpack made that noise except for cyl#1. I then put all new sparkplugs in and all cylinders are firing the spark except for cyl#1.
now, we checked all the plugs that go into the coil packs , each of them show output of wattatage , he used some tool to check it. WHAT THE HELL COULD B THE PROBLEM.
Not the coil packs
Not the spark plugs
cyl#1 wont produce spark.
from researching these forums , i see that cyl#2 has that problem with certain people and they fixed it by replacing the ICM , idle control module, the thing above the airbox.
thank you , any input is greatly appreciated

did you happen to change the coil pack from cyl 1 into cyl 2....if so, then you actually might not be getting spark in cyl 2...since you said that thing about the prob with cyl 2....i just thought i might drop that idea in...since the comp still thinks that that coil isnt sparking in the cyl it originally belonged to...
no matter wut i switched , there is no sparking going on in cyl#-1, cyl#2 is fine , but i only mention cyl#2 cause other posts have been about no spark being in cyl#2 cause of the ICM. but this is #1 so im thinknig , mabe the ICM can cause no spark to go in #1,
wuts an ECT? thank you guys
ALSO: no matter wut i switched , i would check for sparks and there all fine except for cyl#1 . my other question would be , does the ecu have to be reset for the spark to come back to cyl 1?

i just had the same problem but it was a coil and i got a bad coil from the dealership...... but if you swapped everything then i don't know, you vaged the car, had it check the problems?
SWEET. ok i bought a new ICM and put it in. FIXED. When i researched this problem , i found out if your cylinder 2 misfires , its the ICM. Well mine was cylinder 1 and replacing the ICM fixed the problem. Thanx for all the help guys, car runs like brand new. New coolant temp sensor , new camshaft pos sensor and new ICM. I am so happy. All the work took about 20 mins of work, including camshaft pos sensor , EASY AS SHYT.

Sorry to bring up a dead thread but I have an s4 and I am puttering like a **** like you said. Ive taken the coils out and switched them all around but no matter what I could not get a spark in cylinder one. How much did the ICM cost you? I beleive my mech told me something similar to that. Was it a little thing sitting on top of your air box, with brown plugs going in both sides? It might not be the exact same.
