Default gt28rs?

I took off all the hoses today to get a look at the turbo just for kicks since I just bought the car. Well I found enough oil inside the tubing and a small amount pooled on the inside of the turbo to make me worry... Im new to this whole turbo thing, even though my last car was a 1.8t as well i still am lost when it comes to turbos... My friend told me the shaft had a tiny bit of play in it, i couldnt tell.. he also said due to the oil we found its a good asumption its on the way out.. can someone shed some light on this for me..

also when i talked to APR they said the turbo was not rebuildable, why? couldnt i just send it back to garrett and have them rebuild it? I dont want to spend the 2200 for a new turbo through APR thats gay, i dont see why it cant be rebuilt with new seals..__________________

I guess it could also be blow-by if one of my rings are bad.. IE the leak down test

I think you can rebuild a BB turbo but it is not cost effective. You might be able to rebuild the seals on the turbo but the BB cartridge will have to be repalced if it is shot.

I know this is a new car and you are going over everything with a fine tooth comb but it might not be as bad as you think. Take it to a performance shop or take pics and try to get insight from here(which is what you are doing). Is the car smoking out of the exhaust. are their any symptoms? How much play was their I know that a BB turbo is not going to have much if any.

hope this helps (probably not)

well it was not much, and i couldnt feel the play in the shaft at all, and there is no smoke at all, i get an oil burning smell once in a while but it needs a valve cover gasket i can see it leaking.. im going to get a turbo timer installed right after x-mass to be on the safe side, i let it sit for a minute or two when i get out of the car but i would feel better if it was timed.. I guys im just ****, i like everything to be perfect, and if i can change the seals when i do the rebuild that would be sweet..

Shaft play is also normal for a ball bearing. Just not so much that the blades hit the housing.
