haha, this is for you bentframe! Today is absolutely gorgeous outside... so, what better way to spend the day, then blacking out my grill

Good news, the chrome border comes apart from the rest! This is gonna be a piece of cake! I removed the quattro badge... so I'm just gonna rip the 4 rings front and rear. I'll post the finished results soon.

Also some misc pics of my car, and one cool shot of my dads car, behind my car.

NICE! how hard is it to get that outer trim piece off? have you tried messing with the rings yet? those bad boys are on there pretty securely...

I had my dad helping me... it was easy with 2 people doing it. The rings wouldnt be any harder than the outer chrome piece.... so if you wanted to paint the fins, it'd be an easy job, with no taping off required.

The only trouble with the outer chrome piece is the 2 clips on either end, on the verticle part... they are sorta tricky. I used 2 tiny allen keys, you kind of poke behind the clips on an angle, then pull them out... its hard to describe. the rest of the clips, I used 2 flat screw drivers... one to pry the clip open, another pry the chrome off the grill. just went around the whole grill like that. The first layer of base is drying as we speak... 12 minutes required to dry, sweeeeet. I hope I didnt put it on too thick... we'll see. I'll put at least one more coat on, maybe 2... then the clear. should have pics within about 4 hours.

haha, thanks man. it's pretty easy... I scuffed the hell out of the chrome with a 220 grit paper, then a 340, then a 600... then wiped it down with isopropyl alcohol... then primed it, let it sit for an hour (didnt sand the primer) then base coated it.

I didnt sand because it said wait 72 hours before sanding it... I figured it wont matter, because I put a very clean light coat of primer on, it was very even. after 3 layers of base, and one layer of clear... I think it'll look great.

I'll have pics soon, hopefully!

by badge you mean quattro badge? Yeah, they all come off... I didnt paint my fins though, i'm JUST painting the chrome outer border...

but yes, you can seperate the grill into: the fins, the rings, the quattro badge, and the chrome border.

Once you get the grill off the car, its somewhat easy... to get it off the car, I sat on my fan shroud, and looked up... I started at the top, pinch the clips, and push up (the grill pops out, towards the front of the car). then once you have the top ones all off, you can lower the hood, and just sorta pull "up" on the grill, and it'll slide up, and out.
