Default Headlamp comes on when i press brake pedal

Sorry for double post but i didnt get any replies on the A6 forum

As the topic says, just recently i've been having the warning indicator on the dash flashing when i depress the footbrake, i checked the break lamps and theyre working fine, tonite i pull onto the drive against the garage door and i see the side headlamp (nearside) flash on/

I know its probably a short circuit, but the electrics havent been touched ever.

Any help will be apprecaited.

Thx

Btw A6 2.5 tdi red i on the 98 plate

I'm afraid I'm not going to be much help either. You might want to see if there may be a short in the rear lights such that the brake light is feeding back into the system. But this would not cause headlights to go on if they were off. Are you sure it is the headlight or is it one of the side markers or side bulb of the headlight? Have someone tell you which is going on.
You may also want to check the relays if the headlights are going on.

I'm just guessing right now, sorry.

Pull up to a wall and put the low beams on. Press brake. If no additional lights appesr, drive this way, until you find the problem.

Ok, problem sorted, only posting a reply incase someone else has a similar problem.

It was the bulb that needed replacing, it really was that simple.

The bulb that was in there was working fine but it was shorting and making the sidelamp come on (there on the same loop)

Strange, but true
