Default Headlites (New bulbs?)

Quick question for the headlite savy individuals out there. I have an 99 A4 and it didnt come with the new high illumination (Xeon?) lamps. Have general purpose lamps improved over the last 6 years that it would be worth my while to buy new lamps? I think the illumination factor on the factory installed lamps is pretty poor. I'd like to install the new Xeon lamps but from what I understand the process could set me back a large chunk of change and it isnt nearly as simple as just installing new lamps.

Thanks in advance for your response!

look at silver stars, my mom's 97 avant's lights were basically dead and i just installed some of the new silver star bulbs and it was a great improvement, although it really doesn't compare the the xenons, but if you have the money definitely fo the the xenons. There are lots of different options for those and some of the other guys on here know more about them.

Edit: hid lookalike bulbs arent that great
they will never be as good as real HIDs
they are more of a cosmetic thing

In response to your question, I believe there is a bulb for the high beam and one for the low beam. (in other words two piece)

do u have 1 piece or 2? I just bought ecodes and HID 5000k to put in and i will have them in tomorrow. I will get some pics up and say how good they are. I did new bulbs on my old 2 piece crap ones and tehy still sucked. ecodes are here go down a lil get the halogen and then buy a HID kit (think its the cheapest way)

Well based on some recommendations for the cheaper alternative, I bought the Sylvania Silver Star bulbs. I replaced the high/low beam, as well as the fog lite bulb. I have to admit I am seriously disappointed! I think the flashlite in the glove box is brighter then these lites and certainly do not seem much better then the halogen.

I know someone mentioned eCode lites before, where can I get them and are they as easy to install as the bulbs I have already replaced (plug & play essentially).

Thanks!

The only way to get the real xenon look and performance is to put in a real xenon kit. I put in the xenon kit from lltek, they are real easy to put in, and they are the real things. They work great, but total cost about $600, but what the hell.

Xenon's are the way to go. Hated the stock look so I went to PIAA's. Not what I wanted so I went and got the kit for $300. Amazing results. Bright as hell. And sure beats your flashlight .
