U are slowing the car still but its less stress on drivetrain, also it makes a smoother shift. I personally blip the gas when down shifting at first till I get closer to a stop then heel/toe. But this method also makes cornering smoother.

 

What'd you do to your toe? If it isn't too bad, it will heal naturally. If you mashed it up pretty bad, then I would recommend having a doctor take a look at it.
