Default Hello... Rubbing!

Not getting this one. I had posted before that my wheels that are 18x7.5 with 235/40 tires, and the rear on was rubbing a bit. Anyway, I noticed recently that 2 of them are rubbing hardcore. The rear drivers side and front passengers side. It is wearing way on the inside of the tire. And it has rubbed the front one down so much that wires are starting to pop out. Number one, I don't know why I am rubbing when I only have 18's on and other people run 19's on there a4's. Secondly, why are only 2 of them rubbing like this? The front drivers side doesn't see to show any wear at all and the rear passengers has very little, but some. Anyone know?

It may not be rubbing. Your tire wear could be a cause of a bad alignment and in your case it sounds likea negative camber issue.

when you look at the wheels can you see it touching anything or did you just notice the wheels wore out on the inside???? It probably is a camber issue if its not touching anything. From the pic in your sig, it looks like you would have no problem, no offense...it just looks high and rubbing should not be an issue

Yeah all of the wheels are really close to the control arms, that's what it seems like it is rubbing on in the back.

the tires are supposed to be real close to the control arm. if it was the tires they "should" all be rubbing. you definitely should have your alignment checked.

Are you sure you bought wheels with the correct offset? Sounds like they are not far enough off the hub and the control arms are hitting.
Hmmm.. according to what I can find they are a 38mm offset

What brand tires do you have on there? My guess is that its a combination of the 38mm offset and a wide 235 tires (yep, some brand 235 tires are actually wider than other 235's) and perhaps an out of whack alignment

Rubbing on the control arms is not a matter of how high or low the car is - its a matter of the offset of the wheels and the width of the tires. Ride height only applies to fender rubbing.

Hey Brrman,

I have Kuhmo ASX's on there right now. Yeah and the offset should be 38mm. If I got 225/40 tires do you think they would fit better?

On top of that, about a month ago (When I still had my stock wheels on) I was driving on a curvy road and I hit a patch of slush/ice and spun off the road. I am thinking possibly I could have screwed something up doing that? That might explain why only those 2 wheels are rubbing so bad. After that happened my car never seemed to feel the same way driving. It doesn't feel BAD, per say, just a little different.

You could always try getting some spacers and seeing if that helps things, but I would get my alignment checked if I were you.

What is the average price of a 4 wheel alignment these days?
