Default HELP ~ Searched and worried.

What’s up Audi heads.

I did search the site and beyond!! and didn't find any similar issue.

My B6 A4 is doing something very strange.... usually or better yet since I bought the car a year ago, the coolant gauge has always marked 12 noon ½ between C and H. Today as I was driving in HOT Miami I noticed that the coolant temp was dropping down to between C and 12noon. I don’t know about you guys but I have never seen a car drop temp like this. Usually when a car overheats it goes above the normal mark and would bounce up and down depending on the driving and how much coolant you are moving around the engine. Now what would cause the car to drop temp? I noticed once I park for a bit the temp gauge will go back to 12noon position. And after a while of driving it will drop. I checked the coolant level and its fine Where doesn’t the car measure the coolant temp? in the engine or on the radiator? I did a VAG and the VAG scope and it reported the same thing, temp drop. Anyone got any idea what the hell is going on and if I should be worried about this? I’m worried thinking that the temp sensor is on the radiator and there is no circulation of coolant and the coolant in the radiator is cooling down and the coolant in the engine might be trapped.. Please any advice would be great. I have the Vag-Log if anyone is interested. Thanks in advance.

thanks,

I'm going to give it a try. I hope that's it....

Hope its nothing really bad like waterpump going or worse.

Other then this problem I have put over 50,000 miles on this car in a year. WOW, but she is 99.9% running.

I chipped and didn't change out the DV but the turbo started making this ticking sound when I start taking off but other then that, This Audi is great with all the abuse I have put on her.

So I plan to go K04 and with the injectors soon.

Once again thanks for the advice, can't wait till morning to change out the temp sens.

Cheers,

Nexus.

my coolant gauge rarly ever sits in the middle it is alway to the left the only time i get it in the middle is when it is 90+ outside or i drive it like a maniac i thought it was the coolant sensor so i changed it and it still does it i did add a bottle of royal purple's purple ice about a year ago when i got my timing belt done but i didn't think that it worked that good but maybe it does

yeah, well down here in Miami it's always 90+, lol.

Today it was about 98 with alot of rain. But even during the winter time 60's, 70's it still marked 1/2 way. Thats why I got kinda was shocked that it dropped in 98degree weather.

On the VAG-COM i recorded the temp start from 68°C cold start, to 92° C being 1/2 12 noon on the gauge and then dropping down to 72°C. I was just sitting in the car running with the A/C on for about 30 min messing with the new vag-com 7 version and it was 75° idle.

We'll see tomorrow what the cause is.
