Help!! 2004 A4 1.8T Multitronic problem
I'm having problems with my 2004 A4 1.8T Multitronic. The car, quite often, when I try pull away at a traffic light, will not take off and gets stuck in some kind of neutral mode even though Drive gear is engaged on the auto-box. Even if I floor the accelerator pedal, the engine won't rev. Also, when this happens, the gear indicator LED's on the dash display all light up at the same time! (P,R,D,N,S etc).
Does anyone have any idea what could be going wrong here? I've been to the dealer a few times to get it fixed, but they claim they can't find any faults with diagonstics computer.
Please Help!

All the gears lighting up means that the transmission has gone into its 'default" mode, 4th gear only and reverse are available.
1. The car is under warranty.
2. There should be fault codes in the transmission control module that they can access with their VAG 1551 scanner.
Have them replace the transmission control unit. If it persists, then they need to look in the transmission.

Thanks for the reply. My car is a 2003 make, but has only 48.000km (30.000) miles on it, and all maintenance and inspection operations were made by authorized Audi services. I hope that all the costs will be covered under warranty or goodwill.
im sure it was a recall issue and the fix was transmission software upgrade, all the lights on = a fault which can happen when unplugging the gearbox wire harness for a second which set the tranny in limp mode, warranty will cover that and good luck
Thanks for the reply.
They called me from the dealer and told me exactly the same thing with you guys: It was the transmission control unit! Now Germany is inspecting the problem, and they will decide whether the costs will be covered by warranty or not.

Hi,
This is my first day ithis forum, and that's because today my 40.000 Kilometers 2003 Audi A4 1.8T Multitronic (CVT) have a gearbox problem and need to know if someone else have the same failure and what was the repair solution.
the car was ok at the road, but in a red light never moves again, the gear was on D (drive) but nothing happens it turns to neutral, after pushing it to a side I try the rear, and nothing happens, the car engine runs, but no gear works.I have heard about the failure mode that puts the gear only in one front drive and recerse, but in my case the gearbox died...
Today after that, i pulled a few bloks to the dealer and leave it ther until monday to wait for the veredict?
All the services are made in the same (and only authorised) importer anddealer.
Hope to have waranty for this problem

Depends on what the warranty is in your country. There should/may be a booklet that describes what is or what is not warrantied and for how long.
Warranties vary from country to country, depending on market conditions and local regulations.
for instance, in the US, there is no requirement that you return to the dealer for routine maintenance, or that going to another garage wont void your warranty.
