but i think the oil pump can be got to from the bottom by removing the pan, which is alot easier than through the top

 

Wherever you take it, have it flatbedded. Hopefully, you haven't scored the bearings.

Audi has an extended warranty for sludge issues. You will need to have records for oil changes every 5K miles for them to warranty. If the dealer gives you grief, I'd write to Audi of America.
