Default Help!

Hi There, first post and it's a plea for help!

I've got an Audi A4 1.8 petrol (1995) and it has a problem on start up.

It's intermittent, but when the key is turned the engine fires up but then almost immediately dies. It doesn't make a difference whether I give it a bit of accelarator or not, the outcome's the same. It just doesn't 'catch' and the engine dies.

When it does this it can sometimes take 10 goes or more to get it started. I've had the main fuel sensor changed but no joy. Any ideas?

Other times it will start first time no problem and there is as yet no 'trick' to get it to behave?

Ignition coil? Immobiliser problem?

Help please!!!

Not sure what options you have n europe. If you can, get the engine codes scanned and post them here.

Cheers BaconBait,

New to Audi's, can you tell me where I get the engine codes?

Cheers,

Anyone with an ODBII tool can read them down where you pop the hood.

I went to an Autozone to have mine checked recently. They can flash them and then when you start up again, if there are new ones that will at least isolate your problem to the new codes.

But any automotive shop should have one.

Good luck.

it could possibly be battery or some issue in fuel delivery depending on the exact nature of how it dies.

Hi guys, thanks for your replies.

The way it dies is that when you turn the key and it gets it's intial 'rev boost' but then instead of settling at 900-1,000rpm, it doesn't seem to 'catch' and it just drops off again?

I dunno if that makes sense?
