Default HELP!

Ok, so this is the first problem I've had with my car...and I guess I can blame myself. I was pulling away from a stop sign thinking I was in Tiptronic mode...turns out I wasn't so when I "shifted up" I went into neutral, and then realizing what happened, I shifted into drive right away like an idiot. I was at about 3g's. The tranny made a thud sort of sound. No sound of anything breaking. However, it won't engage into any of the forward gears. It will go into reverse and drive, but when I put it into say 2...it feels like it engages, moves forward a tiny bit at around 1k RPM and then just as if it's in neutral, the engine revs freely as if there was no load. ANY HELP WOULD BE MUCH APRECIATED. Even if you know the answer is "New Tranny" or "You're S.O.L.Buddy" Thanks

So it drives fine in D? Just not the lower gears? Tip mode still works? Ive done the same thing before, but im sort of good at matching the RPM's with my mph if i have to throw it from N back to D. I wouldnt think a 3k drop to D would have an affect like you experienced though.. Strange.

Well, it won't drive forward at all...only reverse works... It only FEELS like it will start going forward in D, or 4, 3, 2, and 1 in tiptronic doesn't do it either...So as of now my car is sitting in a parking lot infront of my work.

ya know on the dash where your gears are shown "P R D4 3 2"? Are they all highlighted as opposed to only D being highlighted when you are in D? Know what i mean? There is a red box that goes around what gear you are in, if all gears are highlighted that means you are in tranny limp mode. I dont think the scanners that you can rent from autozone read TCU fault codes. Try to find someone with vag com to scan your car because there is probably some sort of explanation stored.

Sounds like your tranny has gone into LIMP mode. Borrow a vagcom and check the tranny for codes and clear them. this will take you out of LIMP and hopefully the problem will not recur.

I'm not sure if anyone in my town would have a vag-com...I might try Sonora Imports tomorrow, cause they are closed today. onepoint8tee. you're right on an OBD2 not being able to find the problem. As for the highlighted gear on my guage cluster, it's just the single one, not all of them. So whatever gear I'm in, it shows only that one selected. All is normal beside not being able to go forward. Anyone in the (209) have a vag-com I could borrow? JEEZE!

haha, I'm suprised it took it so hard! You'd think it could handle a 3k drop..
