I am going to buy a new 2006 A4 and I am confused on which one to get. I would like a great daily driver that gets good gas mileage and of course I would like it to be quick. I don't know if I should get the 2.0T or the 3.2... From skimming the posts it seems that the turbo is the way to go. I would like to be able to put easy mods on to gain horse power. Which one is the better overall platform??? I probably would wait to do any bigger mods due to the warranty, Is there any mods that are good and won't void the warranty??

Turbo will most likely end up with the most avaliable mods

 

Wheels wont void it, maybe exhaust.

You can probably can throw a higher flow k and n filter in there. Not sure what else you might get away with.

 

Oh yeah I have another question. Should I get the 6 speed manual or the Tiptronic auto tranny??

Manual of course. Personally I'd get the 3.2 but there both great cars.

 

where do you live and what is your experience with stick? that should help. obviously everyone wants to be speed racer, but if you live with heavy traffic for your daily commute, go tip. if you live in the stix, or hills, or live in the city and like to work your left leg, A LOT, go for stick. great car either way. and i'm bias, but i'd go n/a. intakes and exhausts are everywhere, chips do a little good, but at lots of coin and superchargers are enourmous power if you got lots more coin. check out PES tuning.

I do prefer an auto, but I hear the 2.0T has more noticeable lag with an auto. And the Stick would have a bit more pep.

get the 2.0 with a 6 spd

 

The diff is almost negligible. Do a search and you'll find more discussions on the topic. I test drove both and power wise 200-255hp i couldn't really tell a diff. Engine characteristics were diff. The 2.0T shook and was noise and had some lag but has much more mod potential for hp gain at a reasonable price. The 3.2 was smooth but felt a little heavy and is also 6G more and gets worse gas mileage. It'll come down to a test drive and from there you have to decide for yourself based on your personal prefs. There is no wrong decision Audi's are gorgeous cars I get compliments on mine all the time and its bare bones stock.
