Default help check engine light on

was driving my car and everything was good. went to help someone with something, i left and went to a store, when i came back out and started the car the check was blinking and my car was bouncing, i poped the hood and the engine was rocking back and 4th. even the exhaust is making noise, like a pop pop pop sound. i drove her home and there seems to be a huge drain of power. when i got home the bouncing stopped but the check engine is not blinking but its on. any help would be greatly appreciated

if you dont want to send it in to get the fault codes checked out, you can do what I did.

I took my laptop, bought a OBD2 to COM port cable, and then made an adapter (from the cars OBD2 slot to the OBD side of the cable) and I can get all my scans that way. You also have to get some software, but thats free. I got all the stuff by googling around.

if its on solid there is a problem ( if its blinking ) then a problem is about to happen but seeing as yours was blinking then went solid the problem has happened, if the engine runs ok with the light on then the problem could be minor like an air leak so no reason not to drive it.

I have known people drive the car with the CEL on for quite some time when the problem was minor so codes are needed to confirm the problem
