so my 96 audi a4 2.8 has been having trouble starting these past 2 days... everything works lights guages its not my battery i dont think it is.. wen the engine is not on and wen u just put the key in and turn it a lil but not turning the engine my battery is at half... i have to wait like 1hr sometime it wont start till the next day but wen it turns on it runs fine my battery is like 2 bars after half any1 know what this can be .. is it my spark plugs help mplz thanks

Sounds like a battery.

If it jump starts fine, your battery is probably hosed.

 

Have your charging system checked. I bet your alternator is on its way out too...

 

i dont think it would be the alternator otherwise the problem would have only lasted a day at the most, and he wouldnt be able to start it every time he would require a jump. I believe the Battery is worn out, so you might want to try and replace that first.

 

I agree its the battery, if you can jump start it and it runs ok the its running off the alternator which in turn is supplying the battery with just enough boot to keep it going so when its switched off all the power in the battery is lost

 

Pull the codes from the ECU.

I'm not convinced it is the battery. If the car turns over OK but doesn't start. Please describe your problem better.

Your car needs three things to run... spark, air, fuel.

Pull the codes and lets see if we can find something.

 

imma laugh if its just a loose connection to the battery.

i think if it was the alternator the car would be running all haywire

 

not my battery my friend tried to jump me but still wont start.. like i put in the key try to turn my engine but wont start verything comes up guages lights work ... well i had a radiator leak on my upper hose i had anew tank and upper and lower hose changed..
could it be that it leaked into engine or something that maybe causing this problem.. no turning engine is off i cant turn my wheel ..
like if i get the car running everything is perfect but once i turn it off and try to to turn back on it wont work i woulod have to wait like few hrs sometimes but yesterday it didnt work at all ..

 

how do i pull my codes of the ECU? thanks guys
