Default HELP GUYS

so today i was with my girl and out of nowhere my car starts to like how can i say this it was like coughin ... the car had no power at at .. i would press the gas and nothin would of happen and then it would come back and the power would come back to normal but then after 1 minit it would start again .... and it had no power at all... when i got to my girls house my car was overheating and it never did that before..... so i stayed there for about 5 hours when i was coming home when i started the car my car would turn on and it would shut off ... and then i finally got it to start n i had to keep pressing the gas so it would'nt die........and im not sure but i think my motor keeps beeping or soemthing like that .......... i dunt know =/ anybody has any idea .. im bringing to my mecanic tomorrow but i want to know what might be happening before he tells me .. anybody ???? by the way my car is a 98 1.8TQ with 110k ...

coughin like a backfire soud or like a surging. and when it dies soes it idle and then work its way lower or do the rpms just drop straight off when you let of the gas

more like a surging and it iddles it goes up and down n then it dies ... it doesnt exacly come down and dies it comes down to like 1 and stays a lil and then it dies //

Vaccum leak? kinda sounds like the way my car idled before i replaced the vac hoses.

my car kinda did that when i cleared a system lean code that was caused by my MAF being dirty. What happened to me was the rpms(at idle) would kinda hop around up or down and after a few secs it would cut off. Possible it could be a maf problem but not sure.

go to autozone and get your ecu scanned for fault codes. post em up and we'll have a better idea.

if it is your maf there like $80 or sumtin maybe higher but you can normally just clean em and they work like new

hello guys i just came back i broght my car to 3 diff. mecanics and my car has alot of problems ... 1st. oxygen sensor 2nd there something wrong with a hose in the motor they don't know which one yet and my catalic whatever its spelled they both broke so they said i might spend 700-800 dollars ... =/ freaking audis man .....
