Default Help on Intercooler Problem

Ok, I thought that the intercooler in my A4 suppose to be split but today when I did my oil changed, I looked at the intercooler and found that the intercooler is melted and oil in the vacuum hose. Are A4 intercooler supposed to be air cooled or oil cooled??? I think that I would like to get a FMIC rather than the stock since it is probably cheaper.

I believe that is the problem that causes the Check Engine light to come on. So could someone please answer my questions??? Thanks to you all!

Jimmy

Sorry I haven't get any pictures yet but I will soon. As far as melting goes,
the Intercooler should not be hollow in the middle, but there's a big gap in
the middle of my Intercooler. When I remove the sensor on the bottom of the
Intercooler I notice that there's oil dripping from it so I am not sure if Audi
runs oil cooled Intercooler or is it suppose to be air cooled Intercooler.

I will try to get the pic in ASAP. In the mean time, I would like your suggestions
as to go with the stock IC or FMIC. If FMIC is a better option, what size and
dimension should I get for the stock A4? I plan to get the RS4 front not that
I want to be ricy looks but it looks great and perhaps more room for the FMIC.

Thanks

a fimc i the way to go, if there is oil in ur intercooler it means that the seals on ur turbo are bad and u prob have a ton of shaft play in there. how many miles u have? take ur turbo intake pipe off an stick ur fingers in there and see how much shaft play there is by pulling and pushing in the turbine

My A4 now has around 43,000 miles. Is the oil the cause of the melting of
the intercooler?? I'm assuming that because the oil is very hott, it melted
my intercooler. What happens if there is little shaft play in the turbo? Do
I have to get the turbo rebuild? I just got the car for about a month and
there's no warranty. What can I do?

What happens if I still run the car when the turbo is no good?
I mean, it's common sense that I shouldn't drive it at all but
I just wanna know. My A4 is parked in the garaged right now
because I don't want to take the risk or a major problem
later.

Yeah, oil is in my intercooler and I think that's the cause of
the melt down of my intercooler because I don't think hot
air can do that.

So, in case my turbo is no good and my intercooler is no good,
I guess my only road is to get the turbo services and get a new
intercooler right???

Could I get the dealer to work something out or am I on my own?
Any suggestions?

Thanks black991

hey man dont take it to a dealer. where do u live? find a independent shop that specializes in audi/vw. u can find a front mount on ebay that will work and then u can find the piping(talk to tomritt 4 that), u can find a good used k03 in the classifeds on here or other forums for 100-200 dollars. what year is ur car?

The year of mine's 2000. I was checking on some remarks in Audi forums and they say
stay away from Ebay so I'm not sure if I should buy any intercooler from Ebay. I found
a few that are reasonable in price but other brand name like Greddy and Spearco are
quite expensive and I just don't have the bling bling right now.

Anyways, I'm located in La Crosse, WI. Is it drivable with the bad turbo and intercooler?
I haven't driven it since the day I changed the oil and found out about the intercooler.
Pictures will be taken soon so I can show you guys.

BTW Where can I get the adapter for the sensor if I get a FMIC? Is there a place that
sells the adapter separately or does it comes with the whole kit only?

If you know tomritt, could you have him email me at jspec_mr2turbo@yahoo.com

Thanks black991
