Default help me get the right oil pan

so the oil pan i have on the car looks like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-A...spagenameZWDVW

When i search for my cars new oil pan i get this style:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Audi-...spagenameZWDVW

Sorry for not linking but my dial up is extra slow is this snowy weather! So i took a photo of my oil pan to get the part number and it reads this: 078103604T. The first and most identical oil pan i showed you reads this 078103604H, the recommended but not identical looking oil pan reads this 078103604AC. Can you see why i'm confused? I'd like to use the pans from Ebay because they are a 1/3 of the price and its possible i'll crack the new one again. Thanks!

I had a break through on this one... The new recommended pan must not look identical because they are stamping them the same but not putting the hole in for the sensor on the ones that don't need it. So it doesn't look the same but its whats available now. Right?

i believe if u match it up with ur year and engine code it should fit. the recommended one is wut my 01 with engine code ATQ looks like. also take a good look at ur oil pan and the 2 shown. they are very different from each other so u should be able to tell even visually.

Default RE: help me get the right oil pan

Hey i have a long story and questions about my oil pan. WEll let me start with the story, my friend and I were changing the oil in m audi a4 1996 and i think instead of tryng to unscrew the bolt where the oil comes out, he tigthen more the screw and the Oil pan crack. Now the i have oil leakin from the oil pan. I try on resealing wtih a substance, i left it for a day to dry up and then next day i try puttin the screw back on. I put the oil screw back on and then put some oil back on the engine and the sealing didn't work it still leaks. What are some recommendations....should i get a new oil pan install? how much does it cost to replace an oil pan at a local shop? is it expensive? the crack is small and i think that no seal product could fix the problem because it next where the bolt goes. The oil pan crack is small but it leaks oil though. I guess the bolt was so tight that it crack when he was trying to loosen up the screw? Please people help me with my questions and give me recommendations. Thanks alot friends!!

JcAudi...

it is best to replace the pan.

When you try to seal it, I am guessing you didn't remove the oil pan from the engine.
If that is the case, the sealing substance (no matter what kind) won't make full contact with the original aluminum and thus won't seal well.

If you really want to save money and try sealing, at least remove the pan from the engine.
Clean the cracked area and around there with a good amount of soap and grease remover.
Then... you will want to sand the area around and use something that would harden to drillable and sandable substance.
(I used a metallic epoxy kind for my water pump. I believe it is made for exhaust but it harden very well and I could file and fix it. I can get you pic and exact name if interested. Ask me)

Anyway, changing will be the best thing to do since it is really really hard to remove the oil pan on that year.
I did oil pan change on my 97 1.8T and too me 3 full evenings (3pm to 8pm).. that is about 3 work days.
Granted I don't have all the power tools and lift and such.. it is not an easy DIY but very possible.

Let me know what kind of engine you have I can probably help you with some instructions.
