Default Help a newbee make a decision....

Im currently looking for a 96-01 A4. I found a good deal on a 19972.8 5mt quattro. I know the 2.8's ar not as good as 1.8t's as far as aftermarket goes but i need somthing reliable. Power really doesnt matter to me ive got cars for that (06 trailblazer ss 370rwhp, and a 98 trans am that runs low 9 quarters) i need somthing thats reliable and decent on gas. which direction should i go? thanks

If your not going to mod the car and use it as an everyday driver the 2.8 is the way to go.Its a smoother ride than the turbo and has more HP stock. How many miles does the car have and what are you going to spend?

Well reliable, def the 2.8 then. What you need is a good read:

Should be everything you need to know.

The 1.8t's are definitely reliable if maintenance has been kept up with.

walla sell your car? lol, ive done alot of work on fbodys (took it all the way down to a shell and built it back up) but dont know too much on european cars. I think GSC in Charleston does a good bit of import/european work. but dont hold me to it.

If you want good gas mileage go for the 1.8T. The engine is reliable, but is more complicated than the 2.8
