Default Help Please!?!

Hey how you guys doing. i was wondering if you guys can tell me about the 1999 A4 2.8 Quattro and the 2001 1.8t Quattro. Im buy my first car as well as my first Audi so i dont wanna go wrong. I have a 328i and it drives amazingly, but i need a 4 wheel drive car for the snow. So if anyone could gimme some tips as in what to look for or if they have any problems at high milage(75k-100k). Thanks

the 2.8 comes with 190Hp
and the 2001 1.8T comes with 170Hp instead of the 150hp engine
the 2.8 is a more reiable engine but the 1.8t is a good engine also

if ur not gonna tune the enigne and want relaible good stock HP go with the 2.8

The 2.8 is faster stock, but the 1.8T is more responsive to mods. You can chip it for about $500 and gain about 50HP. So, if you are looking to mod your car, the 1.8T is the way to go. It also gets better gas mileage. I'm not too sure on reliability though.

An occasional problem on this vehicle, 4-cylinder only, is failure of the Engine. Failure of the Engine is caused because the engine oil gels. When proper maintenance schedules for oil changes are followed, oil gelling should not occur.

Thats what ive read about that problems.....anyone go through that?

thanks

That is correct.

However, as with any high mileage car you buy used, have a mechanic who specializes in Audi/VW check it out before you put down money. Plan on spending about 1K to 1500 in the first year for maintenance and taking care of the other things the other owner didn't do.
If the timing belt hasn't been done, plan on 6-800 dollars. If there are no records, assume it hasm't been done or you will be spending 4000 dollars on an engine rebuild.

What could the check engine light possibly mean? Major or Minor?

Could be minor or major. At that mileage, who knows. All they have to do is scan the ecu, or all they should be able to do that is. Could be an 02 sensor, or a number of other fuel related problems. If they are saying they dont know why it has a CEL they are either lying or have no business selling cars. Looks nice though and priced right if its not a major problem causing the cel.
