Default Help please!!!

Hey guys, my CEL just started flashing and my car is shaking violently and a clicking noise is coming from the center of the engine. The belts all seem to be fine, when I rev the car more, the car shakes more. I am in my driveway and I have no VAG to do code search. I am lost, and I have time to search right now. Car has approx 125K is a 98. Any ideas would help, I have not operated the car since light came on.

Most likely you need an ignition control module. Check which cylinder your misfire is on. If its 2 you most likely need an ignition control module. It could also be a coil, spark plug, or fuel injector issue. You can diagnose those by switching the parts to a different cylinder and seeing if the misfire follows that part. You can check which cylinder the misfire is on by unplugging the injectors for different cylinders. If there is no change you know the misfire is on that cylinder. If the engine starts running worse, the misfire is on another cylinder.

Could be ICM or a bad coil. Have the car scanned for codes and post them here.

Actaully that clicking from the center of the engine is probably a spark noise. So id look more closely at the coils.

Yep it's either the ignitio coils or the ICU that's on top of the airbox. We have replacements for both!
Have someone with a VAG-COM scan for codes.

I changed my plugs today and now the car will not start. the engine rotates but the car wont fire. I reinstalled the old plugs that would start the car and now those dont work either. Is it my coilpacks that have gone bad, and if so, do I need to replace them all?

Hmmm. Did you listen to what people were telling you? It's very likely the Ignition Control Module. It looks like this and sits on top of the airbox.
