i have a quartz gray metallic '06 A4 2.0T quattro & love it!
i would really appreciate your help... cause honestly, i'm almost clueless about this stuff.
i really want to get tints, but was wondering if anyone has any problems with theirs before i do it.
my friend for example, has an acura TL... put tints in his twice & both times ended up with really bad scratches after a while.
but i guess the TL are known to have that problem.
wouldn't want that to happen too.
also any suggestions for how dark/what type? i think the darker the better.
oh, i live in a chicago suburb... i'm not sure what's legal.

I am not sure about where you are but , in new york , It is iLLegal to have tints on your driver or passenger side doors. You can not have any. But you can have 35% on the rear passenger doors and 35% on your rear window.

I personally am a tint freeeek , I LOVE TINTS . So i got limo tint on all my windows. Thats 5% see through. 35% is so gay and clear I hate it.

 

I think tints are a great addition to a car. Personally, I did 35% tint on the front windows and 20% everywhere else. Keep in mind what the percentage rate means. It is how much light penetrates through the tint. For example, with 35% tint, 35% of light will pass through. Also, keep in mind that tint that is fine to see out of in the day is a totally different story at night. 20% is hard enough to see out of at night, and I wouldn't suggest going any further than that. Also, don't let the tint place try and sell you on darker tint when they point at the different shades they have hanging on the wall. These are hanging against a bright white wall in broad daylight. Again, night is a different story. Also, if you have a dark interior, the tint will look darker than it actually is from the outside, but it will be easier to see out of from the inside. I can attest to this with my black interior.

 

i got mine done in 20% and would go any darker, I used to have 5% and it was a pain at night.

 

IL law says you cant tint the front windows at all, but you can go as dark as you want in the back. Depending how the police are where you live, they may or may not mess with you about the fronts. If they do get you its usually a warning, then a ticket for something like $500 unless you prove that the tint is removed. I bought my car already done but they are just smoked.

 

i got 15% on all the doors, 5% on the back glass, and the windshield done in 50% with a 5% strip at the top. i get a lot of compliments on how it looks

Illios law, as stated, is nothing up front, as much as you want in back. A good place to go for the tint is Express Auto Glass on ogden in Lisle (maybe naperville). Mine was 265 for 35%, so theyre not cheap, but I think it looks great and its gaurunteed for life.

 

$265!? ouch!! i paid 120 and got 15% all around except the windshield. i think tint on side rear windows but not front looks tacky.. i guess they dont care about tint here in florida.. it helps keep your car cool in all this damn heat! go 15% all around...

 

Last time I checked the law said absolutely no tint anywhere on the car in NY. Well I got 20% all around and the few times I got pulled over the cops only mentioned it once...then I showed him my military ID and he forgot all about it haha. Definitely go for the tint, it'll look great, 20% or lower.
