Don't worry about the tranny, I bet money it will just need a flush. Mine will do kind of what you're saying, it'll just go *thunk* every once in a while, kinda weird. But I'm taking mine in when I get some cash to get it flushed. The tranny itself is pretty bulletproof as long as the fluid is good. Other than that, the car was a steal for $9200. Here out West, that car would have been about $13,500. I don't know what it is out here but cars are just alot more expensive. I paid $11,500 for a 98.5 with 95K miles on it, but I did buy it from a VW dealer that put about $2k worth of parts into the car when it came onto the lot. One thing you absolutely have to do is make sure the sunroof drains get cleaned out. If you dont, water can be diverted somewhere. I had this unfortunate problem and it sent water into the trunk ruining the alarm system/door lock pump computer. Cost me $1300 to fix.

About the CD changer-I got that error on my 98 A4 2.8Q and I blew it out with one of those computer duster cans. I stuck the nozzle in the slot where the magazine goes and blew every direction I could and the error went away. I hope this works for you it's was a really easy and cheap fix!

dealerships will rape you much harder than an independent mechanic...and they don't use any ky when they do it either......your best bet is to either do it yourself or find a trusted euro mechanic..most of the time mercedes, porsche, or vw shops will work on audis.

hi im new to the forums.. had a few question to ask since im not that great with cars.

i just bought a 98 audi A4 2.8 quattro from a private seller

accually my mom did.. she just came in the house and told me she bought me my first car..

i test drived it, and i noticed... couple problems with it.........
Dont forget to get some pics up!

Must not be too poor to get a $9000+ car from your mom! Anyway, yeah try flushing the tranny before you get estimates on a new one.. CD changer aint no thang, window- find someone who can work on cars and is knowlegable.. Get a tissue for your mom and tell her to chill out. Sounds like a pretty good deal all in all... Especially because it is quattro and low miles/2.8. If your mom really loved you she would have gotten a 1.8t tho... jk

about the cd changer...

do you have the owners manual?? I know for a fact it lists all the errors and their numbers and tell you what to do if the error occurs. I can't remember off the top of my head what error3 corresponds to but I can check for you if you dont have the manual. Send me a PM if u want me to check because I might not remember to check this post again... but u can leave something here too.
