Default Help a potential A4 owner ?

So I am looking to get a '96'-'99 A4, and would like to know what I need to look for. Are these years of A4's notorious for having particular problems?

I just wanna know if there are any noteworthy problems to be on the lookout for.

Thanks

Welcome to the forum.

You might want to do some digging in the archives to find more information.

Check for squeeks or clunks when you slowly go over speed bumps.

Listed for clicking if you turn slowly (CV joints)
Grinding from wheel wells (Wheel Bearings)
Make sure all the electronics work including cruise control
Check for oil burning
Find out when the timing belt was last changed

If you want to mod the car, get the 1.8T with manual transmission.

Before putting any money down, have it checked over by a mechanic who specializes in Audi/VW
