Dear guys,

This is my first post, but i've been lurking around for awhile now. I have a 03 A4 and everything has been fine and dandy. However, recently, i noticed that my audio system doesn't work anymore. Everytime i turn it on, it reads "SAFE" and nothing works, cd/tape/fm nothing. The buttons dont respond and all it reads is "SAFE" i cannot find it in the owners manual, do you guys have any idea what is happening and do you have a fix? thanks in advance.

This usually happens when you disconnect the battery. I believe its a protective system that renders everything inop if the radio is ever stolen. You should have a four or five digit code in your manual somewhere, if its not there go to a dealer and let them find it for you.

 

I had this problem with my 99 audi like 4 days ago...you need to unlock it, i called like 30 different audi dealers looking for my unlock code and how to unlock it but none of them helped me....if you still have the radio manual it will have the instructions in there, eventually i called contacted audi's 1800 number and the lady helped me through the whole process....some dealers charge around 100 dollars to unlock your radio when all it is, is a few seconds worht of hassle.

call audi, tell your battery went dead and your radio says safe...all you need is your vin and they'll give you instructions...hopefully.
