So, my sister picked up this a4 6 months ago in Fla and found out its was a POS. A new s4 turbo and radiator were installed.

First problem, the turbo doesnt seem to be getting the air to the engine properly. Its charging and you can hear the blow-off valve but not the whistle from the turbo. She was told a valve was not hooked up by the guy who installed it (not from audi). any ideas where to look?

Second, the oil temp sensor isnt working. Where is the thermostat or whatever takes the readings?

Third, Is there a way to pull the error codes without going to the shop. There is a bad O2 sensor but I dont know where. I can see one under the hood but i dont know how many there are.

Fourth, is there an a4 with an s4 package? there are s4 parts/badges under the hood. i think this came out of a chop shop but dont know for sure. It also has a salvaged title.

I dont know anything about audi's yet, I just took this from her yesterday. Ive only done work modding my jeep (320hp). something must be wrong when a grand cherokee can take an a4.

Hm. Sounds like a sketchy *** deal. So you have an s4 turbo in an a4 on a4 programming with a blow off valve. what s4 parts do you have under the hood? there is no a4 with an s4 package. what does your engine look like? i wouldnt mess around with this car, sounds super sketch.

 

1. Hopefully it doesn't have a bov. Check the diverter valve. It's located beneath the turbo on the passenger side. If it's the stock diverter valve (it's plastic) the diaphram inside is probably torn.

2 & 3. Go to Autozone. They'll pull the codes for free.

4. No. Someone probably put S4 badges on it. What year is it?

5. Stock 1.8t A4's only have 150 or 180 hp, depending on the year.

Yeah, it is a shady car. I just want to fix it up. She cant take care of it and trashed it so i took it from her. If i can get it fixed up it would be nice. I dont want to put much money into it. Im still working on my jeep.
there are come caps on the engine with the s4 badge, i dont know where they came from. I just took it off her hands yesterday and have a week till i start working.

Let me know if you have any ideas about why the turbo isnt getting the air to the engine. even without a reprogramed ecu it should still work. Ive only done work on my mopar v8 so this engine is new to me.

any ideas?

blow off valve. if you have it get rid of it. search as to why. not for audi's. get a dv (diverter valve).

Its a '99 1.8T with 108k. It has an aftermarket blow-off valve and a cat-back, I dont konw what muffler or any specs.

The turbo doesnt sound normal to me. From my little experience with turbos, the blow-off usually sounds like a psssst. This one sounds like a woosh. It could be the valve, I dont know. Ill look at summit to find a diverter valve.

Also, is the the turbo and the blow-off under the air box on the pass. side?
