Default help! stripped screw head! argh!!

Hello,

Well, I just got a pair of white LEDs from Ebay $6 with ship'g. I thought I upgrade my license plate light to these. The replacement should be simple, just a couple of philips screws and voila LEDs...but the darn screw head is made of some cheap @$5 metal...the friggin thing stripped [:@]. And yes I used just your average philips head srewdriver for the job. What to do?!? Some of you might know that the screw head is about 1/8" diameter. Any idea how I can get the screw out??

Great idea! Thanks! While I'm at it, I'm going to pick up a couple of new screws..hopefully they have the same exact ones...

So I was thinking, if I'm able to unscrew this stripped head with a extractioner, can I still screw it back on??

Funny thing is the exact same thing happened to me. I wanted to replace my lisc plate lights with LEDS too. Cheap thing stripped. I have yet to extract it though. I would assume you'd want to replace the messed up screw once you extract it and not reuse it.

i wonder if this thing really works- http://www.4grabit.com/Default.asp?bhjs=0

most items on TV dont so i doubt it but it works the same way as the sears screw extractor but seems to do it all in 1 step instead of drilling first, then using the extractor bit

Pretty cool commercial. The guy sounds like some Movie trailer narrator. Anyway, yeah I think I definitely gotta get one of those extractor. But once I get the screw out, where or how can I get a same exact size. I've tried HomeDepot and Autozone, none of them have the same size screw. any ideas on a good place where they specialize in screws???

The're nothing special, any screw thats roughly the same diameter will work. Audi has them in a bin in the parts dept. if you wanna grab a hand full of them.
