It shouldnt take THAT long. I did mine in about 30 mins cuz it was my first time. I could do it again in probably 15 or 20 mins. You might need a new clamp for the skinny hose that comes out the top of the DV, i just reused the one that was on there though.

You gotta get to it from underneath. You can see it from the top, barely. I just used a jack, jack stands or ramps are more safe of course. 2 big clamps and the small vac line on top and its out. Its easy once your under there. Jack the passenger side up. Dont freak out if you see some oil in the old DV and hoses, its normal...

unless you already have an aftermarket DV, it should be black. I think you are looking at something different though, but i cant think of the name for it... Has to do with the AC. Just do it, no more questions.

I just replaced mine two weeks ago, put in a 710N.

I have a B6 and if you're looking under the hood, you can probably see the DV. Yes, it should be black if it's stock. If you look straight down under the initial air intake section, behind the electric fan on the left, you should be able to see it. I tried reaching in from that very spot this morning to make sure the clamps were still holding well (the CEL that came on a couple days after I did the swap made me wonder if I tightened the clamps enough). I scratched my arm up a bit trying to get in there. Anyway, unless you take out the airbox and perhaps unhook a few things, you're not going to be able to do it from up top. I went and bought a 2.25-ton jack and some stands.

I jacked the car up on the passenger side (spots determined as best I could from here: http://forums.audiworld.com/a4/msgs/1591159.phtml) and put a stand under there. I took off the plastic splashguard or whatever it is underneath and reached up to get to it. First, get ready to curse a lot. I had a hell of a time with my tin snips trying to get those clamps off. I'm sure some people can do the whole job in a half-hour but it took me that long just to get the darn clamps off. A piece of advice, if you use tin snips make sure they aren't too big. I couldn't maneuver my hands in there too well.

I remembered how the DV sat and what hose the side opening (coming off the long axis) was connected to so I didn't insert the new DV incorrectly. I removed the clamps, took it out and put in the 710N. After that, it was a simple matter of tightening the replacement clamps. I didn't have much oil in the old one and it seemed to be in pretty good shape. A may tear it open at some point just to have a look. Anyway, a last piece of advice is, before you call it a day, make sure the small vacuum hose is zip tied again like the way you found it and secured back into that plastic holder thing shared with a neighboring hose because you don't want it moving around and resting against your fan casing or worse.

I can't say I notice a difference in performance since the swap. As I said, the mod seemed to have caused a CEL but I have yet to get the code. It could be because I did a TBA right after but time will tell. Next comes the chip and Borla.
