Default hey guys, its like 0 degrees out and i have no heat :(

hey guys, I have a question... my heater works, however when it is really cold outside (ie 10 degreese today) the heat wont work unless my car is moving (or the r's are up)...

is there anything I can do? I mean I have left my car idling for like 30 mins and it still blew out cold air, however once i started moving it warmed right up.

then, when i stop at a stop light it will blow cold air too

this is reaaaal annoying, can anyone offer any advise?

dude it could be ur heating system, or its just to cold for the system to heat up. the reason it "works" when ur driving is due to the heat from the engine. i would c how it works when its not so cold and then take it from there. good luck and stay warm.

I hope so, does anybody elses's on here not work in extremely cold conditions?

I just had my thermostat replaced, I doubt that it would be that.

We had 0 degrees F* here in Wisconsin this morning. It took about 1.5 miles, but the car was blowing heat out the vents. I leavethe climate control onAuto all the time, so it won't even turn the blower on until there is enough engine heat to heat the cabin. I'm guessing you have a thermostat problem, or possibley a heater core problem. If your heater core is partially blocked, it might do this. Did somebody put the wrong coolant in the system at some point? Might want to have the system flushed before youthrow a bunch of time and money at it. It's supposed to get down to -18 below zero this weekend, we'll see how it works then. Burrr!! Good luck.

If your thermostat was stuck open your engine would be running extremely cold.

My guess would be heater core. Stuck thermostat is also a good idea. Did you have this problem before you installed the thermostat? It might have been faulty and gotten stuck. I've never had a problem with my heater even when it was -30 below wind chill a couple of weeks ago - If your car is up to its normal operating temp and you are just getting cold air its likely your heater core.

if it was a thermostat, wouldnt it not work when it is around 30 degrees as colder temperatures?

if it was my heater core, same question?
