Default HID fog lights

i have a A4 B6 and tried to install HID Kit into my fog lights but had a problem with it. when i tried to install it the hid just lid up and doesnt stay on. at first i thought i blew my switch or so but when i pluged back in the factory bulb and it works just fine. then i thought it could be my hid but i tested it out directly to the battery and it stayed lid, so which means it works fine. has anyone had similar problem and if so how did u fix it. any feedback or responses will be much appreciated. THX

Hmm sounds wierd but ummm.... you do have your key in and turned to Acc and not just turn the *** and pull it with no key right? Must have the key in for the fogs to work. Thats the only think I can think of. If it was a fuse it would blow before it try's to turn on. When I put my HID's in it said change my fuse to 15a so it can handle more power.

I assume you are powering the ballasts from the foglight harness and not via a relay to the battery itself.

They light but do not stay lit because the ballasts are incompatible with the Audi electrical system and are not getting enough current to ignite and stay lit.

So you have to either exchange the HID kit to one that is compatible with the Audi electrical system or you have to wire the ballasts via a relay to the battery so they get all the current they want to ignite and stay lit.

I tried a couple of kits before I found one that works with my car. If you can return yours then do so and I can email you the contact at my shop and you can buy a kit from him.

If you can't return or exchange it then you have to wire it up to the battery directly for power.

hey,
thx for the response, but if i was to wire it using a relay, how do i do it correctly? can i still use the factory switch or do i have to install an after market one? i've never done hid wiring with a relay b4 so any help or guide will be greatly appreciated. THX

You will need to use in indepedant switch to control the relay if you decide to use one unless you are willing to cut and tap into your headlight circuit.

How exactly do you wire it up? You'll have to search around for a diagram as I do not have one handy to post for you.

It isn't really that hard to do, the hardest partwould be running the wires and installing the switch.

I have a way around the independant switch, but I'm still testing it as I just got it done last night. I put a tail light bulb in place of the factory fog bulb (painted black with high temp engine paint) and a relay from the same place. This keeps the light out warning from coming on and still allows you to use the factory switch for the fog lamps. Then you just have to run a main power line to both relays from the battery, if you use a heavy gauge wire you should be good with just running one main power wire and just splicing over to the other side.

I tried many things, resistors, relays alone, pretty much everything you can find on the net about this except VAG tweaking as I'm still waiting on my harness to arrive. I was a little suprised that the relay alone didn't work (hid's still turned off after about 4 seconds, and still got the light out warning), but oh-well, I'll see how this current set-up holds up.
