Higher milage A4's?

Im in the market for an audi a4. I have about $6,000 to spend on the car, itself. I've found a couple with aroule 130k miles on them. Is there anything I should pay close attention to when looking at them or anything I should worry about with an audi with this mileage? thanks

There are probably better key words, but if you search for, "problem areas," you'll find several good threads about people looking into A4s and the recommendations forum members give.

if ur buying an A4 with that many miles, i suggest u get the 2.8 because it's more reliable. the thing to worry about is the timing belt. that's the major one. another thing is the history of the vehicle.

My 1.8 has 190K miles on it.

Usual suspects are control arms, wheel bearings, engine sludge, and timing belt.
Check that the belt has been done previously.
Have a good VW/Audi mechanic check it out before you buy and also have him check the oil pressure as the pickup screen can get clogged with sludge. At least you know what you are getting into.

As with any high mile used car, plan on spending 1000 dollars in the first year to take care of the things that the previous owner has neglected.

definatley go w/ a 2.8 in my opinion with higher mileage. the 2.8s have greater longevity than the 1.8swith the wear and tear that comes wiht having a turbo

my 2.8 is closing in on 130k, but properly maintained it runs like a charm

It really depends how the car was taken care of by the previous owner. I've seen some 'dogs' on 2.8s compared to a well maintained 1.8 Turbo.
