Well that just sucks. lol.

Next step: I'm about to pull the cable off of the hood release on the inside and just pull the cable until it un-latches. Think it will work?

This is officially the biggest PITA I've run into with my car (I've replaced the front rotors/pads and the timing belt/water pump). I still can't get it open.

I think I'm just going to have the local shop pop it open for me. [:@]

any luck? I kinda went through a similar problem but not nearly the same. when i put my rs4 grille on i closed my hood and left my hood latch on the inside of the grille... but all i needed was to pry it out with a screw driver, lol... this sounds like hell

 

Yeah I've got nothing. The second latch is easy to get open, but the one you pop from the inside is near impossible. I was searching around and I guess the Passat has a major problem with the cable snapping or the lever breaking on the inside. Most of those guys took their cars to the dealer, I didn't see any posts where the guys could get it open themselves.

I hate when a DIY fails!

 

god that is a huge PITA, he io never would have thought about the hood latch when i do mine, jsut another thing to write down on taht todo list.

 

i have the same problem but i got there a different way. someone backed into my car in the school parking lot hopped up on the bumper and pushed the hood and the grill in. the lock for the hood pops but the safety hook won't move because the lever is being pushed down by the hood itself. can't figure out anything (that doesn't require sticking the jaws of life in-between the radiator and the hood and hoping the hood is weaker then the radiator)that will get the hood out of the way so i can move that lever enough to get the hood up.

body shop wants $750 to re-align the hood and smooth over and paint the dented area above it (with bondo or whatever they plan on using). is this a fair price to pay w/paint?

 

Jaws of life will probably just rip a hole through your hood. But, hey, if you live close i'll bring em over and we can try it.


see if you can remove the latch from the hood. it the first latch(the one from insdie the car is reeased you should have enough room to unscrew it from the hood

Lol, stuck hoods suck. The Miata I'm picking up has a stuck trunk!
